Today I have a special guest over for Outfit With a Past. Kate's blog is fabulous, and I love everything about it, from her DIYs to her Project Runway recaps to her back to school posts to... really, whatever this lady writes she does it with great style. Go check it out for yourself!

My outfit with a past is actually a couple of pieces that I love -- a pair of boots, a blazer, and a scarf -- and mix into my wardrobe to create dozens of different looks. Each piece is one of my favorites, and of course, each one has their own little story.
The boots were once my Mom’s; she bought them right when she was starting college and commuting into NYC to take classes at the Fashion Institute of Technology. Then, when I went off to college in Boston, I took them with me. I love thinking about my mom being a young woman in the city when I wear them, and how far they’ve come since then. They’re the perfect brown boots – I wear them scrunched down over jeans when I’m going for a casual look, and pull them up straight to wear with dresses and skirts when I want to look a little more polished.
The blazer is one of my favorite pieces – and one that my sister and I have argued over constantly, because it doesn’t actually belong to either of us! It belongs to my little brother; he wore it for his first communion, and various family weddings and parties when he was in elementary school. My sister and I, always coveting the adorable shrunken boy-blazers from J. Crew and Rugby, snuck into his closet and started pairing it with our own clothes. I love how it fits, and the laugh that comes after I tell people that it was my little brother’s first communion jacket.
I also love to pair the jacket (and the boots!) with this vintage scarf. I bought it with my mom at a flea market and was drawn to the European scenery and minty green color. It’s such a versatile piece – I’ll wear it in my hair at the beach, around my neck with a blazer, or tie it onto a bag for little pop of color!
My favorite thing about all of these pieces is that when I receive a compliment about my outfit, I love that no one else has these pieces and the story that goes along with them.
Thanks so much for inviting me to share my outfit with a past, it was so much fun! Xo Kate
