show time, furniture show time

Last Thursday (I can't believe that's almost a week ago!) I went with Shira Abel to Casa10. Casa10 is an annual furniture show held in Tel Aviv that used some very big words to promise a grand show.

Well, it was a yawn. But I won't linger on with the negativity because:

-The company was good. Scratch that, the company was excellent! Not only is Shira so much fun to be around, she's also the editor of Tchochkes and she even wrote a Tel Aviv guide for Design*Sponge, and a great one at that.

-Some of the companies and designers shone through the sea of blandness.

Multi media artist/designer Joy van Erven from Godspeed created a living area, recycling and repurposing leftovers from the other stalls in the show. Aside from that, he was so very nice to talk to. <JVE, Godspeed>

 

Vardi can print whatever you wish on their marble and ceramic tiles. I loved the backsplash in this corner, and how cool is the option of matching your textile and tiles?

Another company that offered amazing tiles and lattice-work is Ruchama Sharon. They actually looked even better in person, and I can't wait to use them somewhere.

Gorgeous stoves from Godin. I think these were the highlight of the show. Just gorgeous.

How cool are these bikes? (hint: very cool) Supposedly, they're better for your back and legs. I don't ride so I can only tell you this: pretty.

Next time: Florentine (a south TLV neighborhood). I can tell you right away we won't be disappoinred there.

the week that was

This was a very special week for me, as the first week after the High Holidays always is. I do love to get away, break the rules a little, but I love my routine even better, as it gives me a frame (or a frame of mind, if you will) to break away from when necessary.

I started the week ooh-ing and ah-ing over these links, then I shared the progress I made on my son's room and was touched by all the love and support it got - thank you, guys! I really appreciate it!

On Tuesday we talked about hosting a meal. Here are some of the tips you added in the comments:

Wednesday started wordless, with pictures of one of my favorite design elements: checkerboard floors. I've been saving this image since it was published, almost a year ago, and I was thrilled to finally use it.

After a quick browsing-and-gasping session, I had to tell you how in love I was (and still am) with the latest Elle Decor issue.

On Thursday, a #thinkPINK post went up in support of breast cancer awareness, an issue that affects so many of our lives, either directly or not.

I then went on a shopping and girl-talk spree with my friend Faygili, which resulted in this trench coat from Gap (by the way, have you seen their horrible new logo?)

Came back on Friday, just in time for an outfit with a past from Jess, the first rain of the season (see above, it caught me and C when I picked him from school, and we sang rain songs all the way home) and the news that my brother was getting engaged!

So yeah, quite an eventful week. How was yours?

think pink

As I mentioned on Monday, October is the month of breast cancer awareness (though really every month should be), and so I was glad to join the other bloggers trying to make a difference by posting pretty pink pictures and using the hashtag #thinkpink.

It couldn't be any more appropriate, as my first room (that I remember) was decorated in pink and white. I had the funnest and funniest babysitter back then (when I was 3-5 years old) and we would change the setting of the furniture in that room about twice a week. It's a mystery how we did it, a little girl and a tiny woman, no more than 80 pounds on her for sure. You could say that was my first foray into decorating, I guess.

You can probably see I'm more drawn to pink as an accent color (could it be the matchy-matchy-ness of that room haunts me still?!) But I do find myself liking more and more pink fabrics, and not just for a little girl's room. Here's one of my recent favorites, from a new favorite online resource:

exciting magazine news

Hi y'all. Between the High Holidays, my pressing work deadline (yeah, I know you don't really want to hear about it anymore, but it's in 12 days and I'm nervous) and participating in Holly's BYW course, I don't get to update much. But I promise, your patience is going to pay off as soon as I get some time to breath, as there are some majorly awesome plans for this here blog.

On the meantime, the entire decor-blog scene is a-buzz with some pretty exciting magazine news. Let's dive in, shall we?

• RUE is launching online this Thursday. Click here for sneak peek galore. I can't wait to see what these four talented ladies have brought us. Can you? Last night I participated in a #tweetoutloud with the founders, and got some interesting answers! Here's a recap.
• ANTHOLOGY is a new design magazine, from the seriously creative minds of Meg Mateo Ilasco (Creative inc.) and Anh-Minh Le. The good news: it's a print magazine. Yep, remember those? (see above for their adorable "trailer")
• LONNY and talking about print, Michelle Adams and Patrick Kline's Lonny isn't one to rest on its laurels... The Neo Trad has announced Lonny is going to launch in print starting next issue and launch a new, more reader-friendly site.

Pretty major news, don't you think? And I'm still looking forward to see what happens with Architectural Digest and Elle Decor after their recent changing of guards...
